There are lots of ways to engage with us as a volunteer. Volunteering with us can be a long-term or a short-term experience for you. We appreciate and welcome neighbors and interested parties to hang out in the shop with us and test out volunteering for an hour. Working with us often means working with your hands and peer-to-peer interaction.
Volunteers are required to go through an individual training which usually lasts 1-1.5 hours. During that time the volunteer coordinator will review your interests and the current opportunities available as well as general organizational information that you will need to know. At the end of the training you make your very own upcycled nametag and are ready to begin.
Our volunteer opportunities change as organizational needs change, please contact us for the most updated information. Two areas in which we can always use more volunteers are in the shop and assisting with programming. In-store volunteers work with our retail and reuse specialists on the shop floor to help store visitors feel welcome in our space, work on prototyping, merchandising, sewing, prepping of materials or production. We are able to accommodate limitations if you let us know in advance and we will work together to maximize your strengths and talents to make your volunteer experience a fun one. We encourage your input on techniques, merchandising and prototyping. Volunteers also assist with community programming. If you enjoy working with the public and especially crafting with kids and families, this role could be great for you. We send out email notifications of upcoming events, which tend to be scheduled on evenings and weekends, and you join us at the ones that fit your schedule. We usually find that time flies when you are having fun and crafting with others!
